Everything Fences

Many people start with security when thinking about what type of fence they want to install. In today’s market, you don’t have to sacrifice look and style for a fence when looking for security. You can find a good match for both.

It’s a hard question much like what comes first; the chicken or the egg, but it’s one that must be answered. Is style more important than the material your fence is made from? Not all styles are made in all materials so you will need to know what fence you really want and that it comes in your chosen materials.

You can choose from different woods, vinyl, aluminum and wrought iron. Some of them do come in different colors and you may want to consider that as well as the maintenance for the different types of material. Most of the wood fences will require you to use a sealant to prevent water absorption and help prevent insect infestation.

Vinyl is the most maintenance free, which is great if that is what is most important to you. Some people find it sterile and prefer the natural element of wood or iron. Iron doesn’t need a lot of care but you will need to treat for rust protection. Aluminum is another good choice as it a low maintenance fence.

One of the most fun things to choose for your fence will be the finishing pieces known as post caps and finials. The post caps come in an array of choices that include Red Western Cedar, Redwood and copper topped caps and is one of the reasons so many choose wood fencing. Finials can be added as well for the final touch. Iron and aluminum fences come with pre-set finials and you can sometimes choose the cap for your vinyl fence.

You may not realize the importance of using post caps. They actually have the function of protecting the top of the post from splitting and cracking so you don’t have to replace the post. Finials on the other hand are strictly decorative and using both is great to create the look you want for your fence and deck.
